Awkward Pauses

There are many genres of pauses in the world. There’s the dramatic pause, the grand pause, the comma, the period, and even the pause button on the remote control.
But then, there’s the awkward pause.
The awkward pause. It’s the ugly duckling among pauses. It’s the elephant in the room that nobody wants to talk about. But, there it is.
Awkward pauses happen all the time. They happen on the phone, in person, in a public bathroom, and even in bed (so I hear). How do they happen? Well, sometimes, the pause is brought on by an embarrassing statement. Other times, you just might run out of things to talk about. Both are pretty common.
Awkward pauses just make things…well, awkward. They make everyone feel uncomfortable, and make conversations go sour (like sour cream that’s been sitting on the counter for a few hours, and you go to dip a chip in it and you say, “Ugh, this tastes like sour cream that’s been left out on the counter for a few hours!”)
How do you avoid awkward pauses? Don’t say anything stupid! Don’t say anything that you think might be embarrassing. Also, don’t start a conversation if you have nothing to really talk about. Its like inviting people to a party and not having enough food…you just shouldn’t do it.
If you want to get out of an awkward pause, find something interesting to talk about. Like the weather. The weather is always an easy topic to talk about because everyone knows what’s going on with the weather. And if you say something embarrassing, you can try to avoid an embarrassing situation by pretending you never said anything! You can just say, “What?” a couple of times, and maybe the person you said it too will forget entirely about what you said! A word of caution though…it might lead to a bigger awkward pause.
For example, imagine a teenage boy talking to his friend:
Boy: I wet the bed all the time!
Friend: What?!
Boy: What?
Friend: What?
Boy: What?
Friend: …
See? It could get you out of an embarrassing awkward pause and just get you into a less embarrassing awkward pause. You can also make a joke out of what you said by saying “Just kidding!” or “Hah, like that would ever happen!” Then, you may avoid a very embarrassing awkward pause.
Awkward pauses happen to me all the time. I consistently say embarrassing things because I practically have no filter. And, I can’t keep living this. It’s horrible.
If you have any awkward pause moments you’ve encountered, post your comments!

I just think people don’t want to talk to me haha .. Whenever I’m having a conversation, the other person ALWAYS just stops talking, and usually walks away .. It happens a lot

I hate when you’re arriving at an event, and there’s just ONE other person there with you…someone that perhaps isn’t a talker…and you just happen to hate silence. You try, and try, and try to initiate conversation, but all you get is one-word answers and even more silence than you started with.
