Unexpected Road Traffic

Let’s get something straight: we all hate traffic in general. But, there’s nothing worse when there traffic that you just didn’t expect.

And doesn’t it always seem to be caused by the dumbest reason? Because are slowing down to look at the fender bender on the side of the road! And that backs up the highway for a good 16 miles, doesn’t it?

Even a picture of traffic sets me off.

Granted, some traffic is caused by a lane closure due to an accident. In this case, the whole “merging” issue comes into play. Unfortunately, people are still too curious in this situation, and even after the merge, drivers will slow the process further by stopping and looking to see what the big deal is.

Sometimes, I get angry! Why aren’t we moving?! What’s going on?! I can’t stand this! This is ridiculous! Drive, people! DRIVE! DRIVE! RARGH!! (—>insert steering wheel punches here<—)

I don’t know about you, but I personally turn into the Incredible Hulk when I get stuck in terrible traffic for any long period of time. That’s right…I turn green and become gigantic. Well, at least that’s how I feel.

Motor vehicle accidents aren’t the only cause of unexpected traffic though. Construction may be a cause, to the un-informed motorist, of unexpected traffic. Construction is always terrible because it always means one lane is closed…if not more. Fortunately, nobody’s stopping to look to see what they’re building because nobody cares. Right? I don’t remember driving through a construction site looking around and commenting, “Man, that’s SOME bridge they’re building!” It just doesn’t happen.

Lanes closed for construction...makes me cringe.

And has anybody ever heard of emergency construction? What is that? What’s so urgently wrong with the road that they need to call it an emergency? The only thing I could come up with was that the road collapsed.

And you always get stuck in traffic when you have to be somewhere.

For some, traffic is a way of life. Where I live, it is. New Jersey is the most densely populated state. And with that ever-growing number of people come more cars, buses, trucks, and the like. Some parts of New Jersey are just highway (and, if you’re from out of state, this is the small portion of New Jersey that many people see when they call it so “dirty”).

Sometimes, I just like to take a train or a bus. Because driving is starting to drive me nuts (pun intended)!
